• prescribe generic desogestrel 75microgram tablets 
• the following brands hold a Do Not Prescribe status on the NENC formulary and should not be routinely prescribed – Cerazette, Cerelle, Desomono, Lovima.
• NB where patients have a known soya or nut allergy, brand name prescribing should be considered

Alternatives

• Norgeston® (levonorgestrel 30 microgram tablets).

• 4mg film-coated tablets
• Approved as second line choice for women in whom desogestrel is not appropriate after a suitable trial (minimum 3 months) and where other methods of contraception including long-acting reversible methods are contraindicated, have been declined or are not suited.
